Zero Evictions Campaign
International solidarity to achieve dignity and security in housing
At this very moment, a billion people all over the world are either threatened with homelessness or living in bad housing conditions, due to large-scale investments of financial and real estate capital, social, economic and racial discrimination, wars and natural disasters. Instead of diminishing by 100 million by 2020 as laid down by Objective No. 7 of the Millennium Development Goals, this figure is destined to rise by another 700 million by 2020.
Do you want to expose housing rights violations to the entire world?
Do you have a particularly striking video of inhabitants resisting evictions?
Are you able to document visually, by any method, alternative initiatives for the right to housing?
To provide more opportunities to make known what is going on the world, as well as to showcase the skill and commitment of the people involved, IAI has decided to extend the deadline for participating and voting in the Video Contest to 21 February 2010!
The winning videos will be screened at the Urban Social Forum (Rio de Janeiro, 22-26 March 2010).
So don’t wait any longer: Enter your videos and vote before 21 February 2010!
N.B. The deadlines of 31 December 2009 given for the presentation of videos and 31 January 2010 for voting online that are indicated in the article ”World Zero Evictions Day 2009 Video Contest” are both extended to 21 February 2010.
For a participative and zero eviction renewal of a popular district of Barcelona
Within the framework of the World Zero Eviction Days 2009, the International Alliance of Inhabitants summons a competition of ideas for a participative and “zero eviction” renovation of the popular district of Bon Pastor in Barcelona.
Inscription from november 3rd, 2009, to february 23rd, 2010
The united rallying for the right to housing without borders continues: Following the success of the 2009 Days, new initiatives are being set in motion towards the World Assembly of Inhabitants in 2011. In this context, IAI has launched two international contests: a Video Contest, whose theme is “Violations of the right to housing: resistances and alternatives” and the Ideas Contest entitled “Repensar Bon Pastor: a competition of ideas for a participative and zero evictions renovation of a popular neighborhood of Barcelona”.

Appeal to International Solidarity Action
We, inhabitants’ associations, international networks, voluntary groups, NGOs, public agencies, citizens of the world, express our indignation at and denounce Israel’s continual policies of eviction and demolition carried out against the Palestinian people, both Palestinians ’48 (citizens of Israel) and Palestinians ’67 (in the Occupied Palestinian Territories). These demolitions and evictions clearly violate international law.
Appeal to International Solidarity Action
To break the silence on the fate of millions of people and put pressure on international institutions to play the role they should, the Zero Evictions Nigeria Campaign addresses an appeal not only to the Nigerian authorities, but also to UN-Habitat, the European Union, the Africa Union, the G8, the IMF and the WB.
On the occasion of World Habitat Day 2009 celebrated by the UN-Habitat with the motto “Planning our urban future”, the International Alliance of Inhabitants, the world-wide network for housing rights with no frontiers, has issued a critical communiqué launching the World Zero Evictions Days to support resistances and alternatives for participating cities, a concrete foundation for a new Urban Social Pact.
